Maitland Railway Museum social outing Nov 2026

  • Post category:social
For our next social outing, we will be visiting the Maitland Railways Museum located in Telarah (Please Note – Sunday).

This Museum has been formed to preserve, restore and display materials and records that interpret the part played by the South Maitland Railways in the settlement and transformation of the Maitland – Cessnock region to become one of the most important coal-producing areas in the world of the mid-20th century. The Museum itself has a model railway, interpretive displays, as well as equipment, tools and other artefacts used by the railway, while a volunteer member will be on hand to assist visitors. The South Maitland Railways attracts growing interest for its heritage significance. In essence, it is a perfectly preserved Victorian era railway, seemingly immune to the new electronic age. It was the last railway in Australia engaged in the complete restoration and operation of steam locomotives for commercial purposes.

We will meet at the Central Park cafe for morning tea and then proceed to the museum site where a car park is situated adjacent to the site. Due to some uneven ground and a few steps, the site is not suitable for walking frames, and it is suggested that sturdy, enclosed footwear be worn. Details as follows;

When:  Sunday 1st November 2026
Where:  Maitland Railways Museum, Mount Dee Rd & Junction St, Telarah
Meet:     Central Park Cafe, 101 High St, Maitland
Time:     9.15/9.30am
Cost:     Cafe – own expense, Museum – gold coin donation

If you intend to come, please click here to download the attendance form, complete the details and submit. We do need this form sent in so we can give the cafe a ‘heads up’ on numbers attending. Look forward to seeing you there.
